If this is the first
time you have ever reinstalled Windows 95 on your computer you will need
to create a set of Windows 95 system disks before deleting your windows
directory. If you have already created your Windows system disks, then
skip to the Deltree Windows section.
How to create Windows 95 system disks:
- Click on Start,
Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Create System Disks.
Note: You will need 30 disks to do this and will only be able
to make this set of disks once.
- A wizard will come
up to help you in creating these disks, click on Next.
- Click on Microsoft
Windows 95 Setup Disk Set and then click on Next.
- Windows will instruct
you to label the disk and then insert it into the floppy drive. It is
recommended that all of your disks have been recently formatted and
contain no data on them. Insert a disk and click on Next. Repeat this
step until all 30 disks have been created (1 start up disk and 29 Windows
95 disks)
Deltree Windows:
- Insert the disk
you made labeled Start Up Disk and turn your computer on, if it is already
on then restart it.
- Type C: and then
press Enter.
- Type copy c:\windows\command\deltree.exe
and then press Enter.
- At the C:\ prompt
type c:\windows\command\deltree.exe c:\windows and then
press Enter.
- You will be asked
if you are sure you want to delete the Windows directory and all its
subdirectories. Press Y for yes. This will delete the entire contents
of your Windows directory. It may take 10-15 minutes to delete all the
files in your Windows directory, please be patient.
- When the A:\ prompt
reappears, continue to the next step.
Reinstall Windows:
- Insert the disk
you made labeled Disk One and type Setup and then press Enter.
- Windows will start
the setup process for installing Windows 95. Scan disk will begin and
confirm that you have enough hard drive space to complete installation.
- Windows will ask
if you accept the licensing agreement. Click on Yes to continue.
- You will be asked
what type of install you want to do. Click on Typical.
- Windows will then
require your certificate of authenticity number. This is located on
a certificate attached to the cover of your Windows 95 manual.
- Type in your name.
The company name is optional.
- The next screen
you see will say Analyzing your Computer and will ask you what type
of hardware you have in your computer.
- Make sure that
all of the check boxes are unchecked and then click on Next. Do not
put a check in any of the boxes.
- Windows will ask
you what components you would like to install. Click on install most
common.
- When Windows asks
if you would like a boot disk click on no. You do not need one because
you have already made one.
- Windows will begin
to copy files and complete the installation of Windows.
- Once Windows has
completed installing the files to your system you will be required to
reboot. After it has booted up for the first time your installation
of Windows 95 will be complete.
