Warning: Following this WinBook Tech Article will remove all data from the current hard drive. If possible back up all critical data before proceeding with the instructions below.

Delete Primary DOS Partition:

  1. Boot the computer with the Windows 95 boot disk in the floppy drive.
  2. This will boot to the Windows Setup Utility. Press F3 twice to exit Setup.
  3. You should then be at an A:\> prompt.
  4. Type fdisk and then press the Enter.
  5. If the system asks you if you want to enable large disk support press Y and then press Enter.
  6. Type 3 and then press Enter to Delete Partition.
  7. Type 1 and then press Enter to Delete Primary DOS Partition.
  8. Type 1 to and then press Enter to delete the Pri-DOS Partition and use the Volume Label listed for it if any.
  9. Press the Esc key twice to exit Fdisk.

Create Primary DOS Partition:

  1. Restart the computer with the Windows 95 boot disk still in the floppy drive.
  2. Press F3 twice to exit Setup.
  3. At the a:\> type fdisk and then press Enter.
  4. Type 1 and then press Enter to Create Partition
  5. Type 1 and then press Enter to Create Primary DOS Partition.
  6. When asked if you want to make the partition active press Y.
  7. Press the Enter key 3 times to create the partition.

Format:

  1. Restart the computer with the Windows 95 boot disk still in the floppy drive.
  2. Press F3 twice to exit setup.
  3. At the a:/> type format /u c: and then press Enter.
  4. Press Y when asked if you would like to continue.
  5. When asked for a volume label hit Enter.

Installing Windows 95:

  1. Restart the computer with the Windows 95 Boot disk still in the floppy drive.
  2. Press Enter to start Setup.
  3. Windows will ask if You accept the licensing agreement. You must click on Yes if you wish to continue.
  4. Windows will ask you what type of install you want to use. Select Typical install.
  5. Windows will then require your certificate of authenticty number. This is provided on the cover of your Windows 95 manual.
  6. When prompted, enter your name.
  7. The next screen you see will say Analyzing Your Computer.
  8. It will ask you what equipment you have and it will have a series of checks.
  9. Make sure all the check boxes are empty and then click on next.
  10. Note: Do not put a check in any of the boxes!

  11. Windows will what Components you wish to install. Select Install Most Common.
  12. Windows will ask if you want to create a boot disk. Click on no because you already have one.
  13. Windows will now copy files.
  14. After Windows is installed reboot the computer.
