When the CD-ROM drive does not appear in Windows or DOS, it may be due to the drive not being securely seated in the media bay.

  1. Shut the computer down
  2. Remove the CD-ROM drive from the media bay
  3. Re-insert the CD-ROM drive, giving it a firm push to engage the contacts
  4. Turn the unit back on, and check again for the CD-ROM in Windows or DOS

If the CD-ROM drive is still not seen it may be due to dirty contacts.

  1. Shut down the computer again
  2. Remove the CD-ROM drive from the media bay.
  3. Clean the CD-ROM contacts with 90% or better Isopropyl alcohol using a fairly stiff brush, like a tooth brush
  4. Clean the mating contacts in the media bay likewise, using a long stemmed foam tipped swab
  5. Let the contacts dry for about 20 minutes or so.
  6. Re-insert the CD-ROM drive, and check again for the CD-ROM in Windows or DOS

If CD-ROM remains unseen, call WinBook Tech Support at 800-468-1225
