  1. Click Start, go to find, then to files or folders. In the "named" field type "SOCKETSV.VXD". Look in the C:\ drive, and put a check mark in the "include subfolders" box. Press "find now" and Windows will search for the file.
  2. There should be at least one file found in the Windows\System folder, determine the size of the file.
  3. If the file is less than 21kb, You will need to get the correct size file. You can download the file from our Webpage at www.winbookcorp.com. Go to Models, then to XP5’s, then choose Drivers, and follow the instructions for downloading and extracting and installing the XP-VXD file.
  4. If the file is 21kb in size then, proceed with step five.
  5. Go to the Control Panel and double click the System icon; go to the Device manager tab. Look for a red X on the pcmcia sockets, if there are red X’s then highlight the controller and hit properties, on the "general" tab there will be a box that is checked to disable the card, remove the check mark and the PC Card wizard will start. Choose next, next and finish, You will be prompted to shut down the computer, choose "Yes".
  6. Restart the computer, when it has booted into Windows 95, insert the Livewire card into one of the sockets located in front corner of the left side of the unit. Windows will see the card and prompt you for the driver.
  7. Insert the manufacturer disk in the floppy disk drive and select "driver from disk provided by manufacturer", direct Windows to the correct drive and press OK.
  8. Windows will copy some files and prompt you to identify your computer on the network. Choose a computer name and Workgroup. If you don’t know the name of your Workgroup, contact your System or Network Administrator. Windows will then continue copying files. Once the files have been copied you will be prompted to restart Windows. Press "Yes".
  9. When Windows restarts you should two tones, one low, and one high indicating that Windows sees the card.
  10. Contact your System or Network administrator to correctly configure your Network settings.
