You will need the following items to complete the procedures:

  • Windows 3.11 installation disks
  • 3Com Etherdisk (received with the 3Com589D)
  • 3Com Etherlink III users manual
  • XP-Sup
  1. In MS-DOS at a c:\> prompt, place the diskette with the extracted XP-Sup file in the drive a:
  2. Type copy a:\cardsoft\ssvadem.exe c: and press the Enter key.
  3. Type edit c:\config.sys. This will open the config.sys file
  4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to below the last line in the config.sys
  5. Type devicehigh=c:\ssvadem.exe
  6. Press the Alt key and release it, the F key and release it, then the S key and release it. This will save the changes to the config.sys
  7. Press the alt key and release it, the F key and release it, then the X key and release it. This will exit Edit.
  8. Turn the system off and remove the XP-Sup disk. Turn the system back on and if the your WinBook boots to Windows exit to a c:\> prompt.
  9. You should consult the 3Com Etherlink III users manual for the correct procedures for the type of network you are installing.
  10. The socket driver is installed but not card services and it will consume much less system memory.
