Subject: Reseating/Installing the Hard Drive on the WinBook M Series Notebooks

Reseating the hard drive:

  1. Power down the system completely. You should unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery before removing the hard drive. Disconnect any attached peripherals.


  2. Turn the system over. The front of the unit should be facing you.
  3. The hard disk drive (HDD) compartment is located toward the upper left of the unit. There are two screws that secure the rail kit to the unit. Remove the screws and set them in a safe place.


  4. Slide the rail kit out to the left of the notebook.
  5. Slide the rail kit into place. Be certain that the screw holes on the rail kit align completely with the screw holes in the case.
  6. Secure the rail kit with the two screws.
  7. You are finished.

Installing a new hard drive:

  1. Power down the system completely. You should unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery before removing the hard drive. Disconnect any attached peripherals.
  2. Turn the system over. The front of the unit should be facing you.
  3. The hard disk drive (HDD) compartment is located toward the upper left of the unit. There are two screws that secure the rail kit to the unit. Remove the screws and set them in a safe place.
  4. Slide the rail kit out to the left of the notebook.
  5. The drive is attached to the rail kit by 6 screws. Remove the screws and set them in a safe place. Angle the drive out of the rail kit. Remove the adapter from the pins of the drive.
  6. Remove the new hard drive from the anti-static bag. You can use the same anti-static bag to store your old hard drive.
  7. Connect the adapter to the pins of the new drive. Angle the drive into the rail kit. Secure the six screws that attach the drive to the rail kit.
  8. Slide the rail kit into place. Be certain that the screw holes on the rail kit align completely with the screw holes in the case.
  9. Secure the rail kit with the two screws.
  10. You are finished.
