What is SGRAM? SGRAM - Abbreviation of Synchronous Graphic Random Access Memory. SGRAM improves the performance of regular DRAM by increasing greatly the speed at which memory transfers take place. SGRAM can synchronize itself with the CPU bus clock up to speeds of 100 MHz. In addition, SGRAM uses several other techniques, such as masked writes and block writes, to increase bandwidth for graphics-intensive functions. Unlike VRAM and WRAM, SGRAM is single-ported. However, it can open two memory pages at once, which simulates the dual-port nature of other video RAM technologies. What is AGP? AGP - Abbreviation of Accelerated Graphics Port. It is a new interface specification developed by Intel Corporation. AGP is based on PCI, but is designed especially for the throughput demands of 3-D graphics. Rather than using the PCI bus for graphics data, AGP introduces a dedicated point-to-point channel so that the graphics controller can directly access main memory. Is the display driver Direct X 7 compatible? The ATI Rage LT Pro has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs. Microsoft Labs, however, the video card is capable of Direct3D and DirectDraw Hardware Acceleration. Direct X 7 is already installed on your notebook. What is the ATI Desktop? The ATI Desktop allows quick adjustments of display settings and access to the Windows 98 display properties. This program is located on the taskbar as an ATI icon. You can right click on it to view different properties or double clicking to view the ATI Desktop help. What is the S-Video Port that is next to the TV Out port? S-Video or Super-Video (or sometimes SVHS) is a video technology that splits video information into two separate signals: one for color (chrominance), and the other for brightness (luminance). (The terms Y/C video and S-Video are interchangeable.) It allows for higher quality video output to devices equipped with an S-video input port. If your television or video device has an S-video port, you can attain sharper image quality by connecting your WinBook XL3 to that device with that S-video port than you can with a traditional TV-out connection. This can be especially helpful in DVD playback, since it allows for faster video transmission between your system and the video device. What is the difference between TV Out (RCA) compared to the S-Video Port? The difference between TV Out (RCA - standard television video) or S-Video, is that the TV Out sends both luminance and chrominance signals along the same path of cable to be separated by the TV's comb filter. The S-Video sends them to travel down two separate paths shielded from each other. |
