Note: This WinBook Tech Article is for determining if a ESS or Lt WinModem is installed in a WinBook XL2 unit.

  1. Turn on the computer and let it boot into Windows 98.
  2. Click on START|SETTINGS|CONTROL PANEL.
  3. In Control Panel double-click on SYSTEM.
  4. Click on the tab at the top labeled DEVICE MANAGER.
  5. Click the "+" symbol to the left of MODEMS.
    1. If there is a LT WinModem(screenshot TNXL2025-1) or Lucent WinModem(screenshot TNXL2025-2) listed then there is a LT WinModem installed.
    2. If there is a ESS ES56CVH-PI Data Fax Voice Modem (screenshot TNXL2025-3) listed then there is a ESS modem installed.
