NOTE: You, the customer, are solely responsible for data security. WinBook strongly recommends that you perform a backup of all personal data contained on your system prior to performing this procedure. Warning: WinBook will NOT be held responsible for any data loss incurred during this process.

1.  Remove the battery and the AC adapter from the WinBook. This is a must. Turn the Unit upside down and locate the vented panel with two screws holding it in place. You will need a small #1 Phillips screwdriver.

2.  Power down the system completely. You should unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery before removing the drive. Disconnect any attached peripherals. (See Chapter Three for instructions for removing the battery, if needed.)

3.  Turn the system over.

4.  Remove the two screws that hold the cover with the vents (this compartment houses the modem and heat sink for your unit and you should exercise extreme care when working near these delicate elements of your system). Set the cover and the two screws in a safe place. (Figure 7.8)

5. Locate the modem.  It is the green board that is covered with tiny circuits and has a cover over it.  In the corner closest to the large silver panel is a single screw holding down the modem.  Remove the screw holding the modem in place. (Figure 7.12)

6.  Gently lift up on the modem until it pulls out of the socket. Angle the modem out of the slot and pull it out of the system. Once removed, angle the modem into the slot and press firmly down on the modem to secure it into the socket. Insert the screw that holds the modem into place. Replace the cover with vents and insert the two screws that secured it into place.
