Q. How do I connect my computer to the port replicator? A. Locate the docking connection port on the back left side of the computer. Flip the door down and then slide it under the connector. Now line up the locking arm on the right side of the port replicator with the computer. Slide the Port replicator toward the computer, making sure that the connectors are lined up properly. Once the connectors are aligned, firmly pull the port replicator toward the computer until the docking connectors are in place. You have successfully connected your port replicator. Q. What kind of ports are on my port replicator? A. The XL port replicator contains 2 PS/2 ports (mouse and keyboard), 1 speaker jack, 1 joystick game port, 1 parallel printer port, 1 serial port, 1 VGA monitor port, 1 universal serial bus port and a pass through power connector. Q. How do I setup the game port for use with a joystick? A. Make sure the port replicator is firmly connected to the computer. Turn the computer on and enter the Setup Utility by pressing the Del key. In Setup go to the Peripheral setup and press Enter. Go down to Port Replicator game port and press the page down key until it reads enabled. Press esc. F10 then enter. When Windows restarts it will install the needed drivers for the game port. Q. Why is there only one USB port on the replicator and 2 on the computer? A. USB devices are designed so that you may link each device together in a chain then connect them to the computer through only one port. Q. Does my Port replicator require power? A. No. The port replicator does not require any power. The plug in the back is strictly a pass through for the computers power. Q. Is my port replicator hot dockable? A. No, it is not. If you have any devices connected to the replicator when you attach it, Windows will not recognize them, and if you have a mouse or keyboard attached it will cause Windows to crash. Q. How can I use a Kensington lock on the computer while connected to the port replicator? A. The port replicator covers up the computers Kensington lock . The port replicator does have a Kensington lock available on it. It is located above the release arm. The Kensington lock prevents the computer from being removed from the port replicator. Q. What is the metal strip on the port replicator for? A. It is a grounding strip. The computer has a matching piece of metal that lines up with the one on the replicator. When those are in contact they provide a ground for the system. Q. On my other computer there was another profile created for the port replicator. Why did this not happen on my XL? A. The port replicator for the WinBook XL is just a port pass through. In other words it doesnt have any active controllers that require Windows to load drivers. Q. Why doesnt the port replicator have any line in or microphone jacks? A. The port replicator does not have the line in or microphone jacks because they are still available on the computer. You can plug the devices to the appropriate ports on the left side of the computer. |
