During use, the WinBook XL CD-ROM drive will frequently spin down and stop. When the drive is selected or information is needed off of the drive, there can be a few second pause and you can hear the CD-ROM spinning up before the requested data is accessed. This is a normal behavior of the CD-ROM drive for the unit. As opposed to most desktop PC CD-ROM drives that spin constantly, the CD-ROM in the XL spins down in an effort to conserve battery power as an automatic power saving. Because it is a 20x speed CD-ROM, it does take a few seconds to reach the proper rotational speed, causing the few second pause that is experienced.
