Because the XL CD-ROM is a 20x Speed drive, it has a very high rotational speed. This can cause some CDs to produce a vibrating sound and in some cases, you can feel the vibration. This is typically caused by CDs with excessive label paint on them, usually on one side of the disc, that is causing a balance problem much like a car tire without wheel weights will cause vibration at high speeds. CDs, such as the Windows 95 CD or some recordable CDs, that have little or no label paint will spin without vibration. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done for a CD that causes vibration because of label paint. Audio CDs will probably never exhibit this problem because they spin at a lower speed that does not vary. |
