General Information: This error means the program you are running is trying to make changes to the boot sector of your hard drive. This can indicate that there is a virus trying to install on your system. There are some programs that need to make changes to the boot sector in order to install properly. Some types of situations where the boot sector may be modified would be while installing a new operating system, or installing some Anti-Virus software. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE THAT WHAT YOU ARE RUNNING DOES CHANGE THE BOOT SECTOR DO NOT PROCEED WITH THIS WinBook Tech Article. If you proceed you could infect your computer with a virus that may cause data loss, or damage to your computer.

  1. If you are getting this error cancel whatever it is you where running, then shut the machine down. If the computer locks up with this message turn it off with the power button.
  2. Press the power button to turn the system on. Begin tapping the delete key immediately after turning the system on. Continue to do so until you see the AMI BIOS setup utility.
  3. The Standard CMOS should be highlighted. Press the Enter key.
  4. Use the down arrow key to highlight boot sector virus protection, once highlighted press the PgDn key to change it to disabled.
  5. Press the ESC key to exit the Standard setup. Go down to save settings and exit, press the enter key twice to exit the setup utility. The computer should reboot.
  6. When Windows has finished loading proceed with installing your program.
