General Information: The subject of this tech note is to setup the WinBook XL to use the microphone recording while having the parallel port set for ECP. Please note that this requires that the Infrared port needs to be disabled and that if you require the use if the IR port then this tech note should be disregarded.

  1. Turn the computer on and press the delete key until you see the setup utility.
  2. Once in setup highlight the peripheral setup and press enter.
  3. Highlight the IR port. To the right you will see 3e8h. Press the page down key until it reads disabled.
  4. Now move the cursor down until DMA channel 2 is highlighted. Press the page down key until the number to the right reads 1.
  5. Press the esc. Key. Press the F10 key then enter. The computer should then restart.
  6. When the computer restarts test both the printer and the microphone. If either is not working please contact WinBook Tech Support.
