1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel and double click the System icon. Go to the Device manager tab. Look for a red X on the PCMCIA sockets. If there are red X’s then click once to highlight the controller, then click the Properties button, on the General tab there will be a box that is checked to disable the card in this hardware profile, remove the check mark and the PC Card wizard will start. Choose Next, Next and Finish, You will be prompted to shut down the computer, choose Yes.
2. Restart the computer click on the Start button, go up to find, then to files or folders. In the "named" field type SOCKETSV.VXD. Look in the C:\ drive, and put a check mark in the "include subfolders" box. Press Find now and Windows will search for the file.
3. There should be at least one file found in the Windows\System folder, determine the size of the file.
4. If the file is less than 21kb, you will need to get the correct size file. This file may be listed on your system in another folder, if so, copy the larger file into your Windows\System folder. If not then you can download the file from our webpage at www.winbookcorp.com. Go to Models, then to LM Support files, then choose Drivers, and follow the instructions for downloading and extracting and installing the LM-VXD file.
5. If the file is 21kb in size then, proceed with step six.
6. Restart the computer, when it has booted into Windows 95, insert the New Media modem card into one of the sockets located in rear corner of the left side of the unit. Windows will recognize the insertion of the card. Windows will copy the required files to initialize the modem.
7. Restart your computer.
8. When Windows restarts you should hear two tones, one low, and one high indicating that Windows recognizes the card.
9. You can verify the modem installation by clicking on the Start button, going to Settings, and then to Control Panel. Find and double-click the Modem icon. This will open the Modem Properties box. Go to the Diagnostics tab and verify the modem on com3. Click on com3 to highlight it and press the More Info button. Windows should communicate with the modem and provide you with the modem information. The "error" codes that show up beside ATI5, 6, and 7 are normal for this modem.
