Q. I installed the new video driver of cirrus logic 7548 v1.4 and all my icons on my desktop changed back to the what Windows 95 assigned to them. What happened?

A. This is an unavoidable side effect of updating the driver, unless you have installed Microsoft Plus on the unit. If a theme is selected the icons will not change, because theme controls the appearance of the icons.

Q. I tried to install a Thrustmaster XL joystick and it is not working properly.

A. Follow the configuration instructions until it is time to configure the POV hat. When you configure the POV do not hit enter; instead, click on the capture POV button. This will configure the joystick for Windows 95.

Q. I tried to use a Thrustmaster XL joystick in the Comanche flight simulator and it is not working correctly.

A. You may have selected the wrong joystick. Try selecting the CH Flightstick Pro as the joystick, instead of Thrustmaster xl.

Q. I am trying to install PCanywhere for windows 3.1 and I’m having trouble.

A. Install PCanywhere using its installation instructions. It will identify the modem on com1 and have 9600 selected by default. You will have to change the modem to com2, and the baud rate to a higher speed. Remember that if the other unit is not set to the maximum speed as well, both units will select the lowest common speed.

Q. In Windows 3.11 I’m trying to use a serial mouse but it is not always being detected.

A. Go to DOS and then go to the "c:\mouse" directory. Edit "msinput.ini" and change the mouse type to serial. Save the file and then type in the following: "attrib +r msinput.ini". This will keep the mouse from changing back to the ps/2 port.

Q. When I try to run a DOS based program the top quarter of the image is fine but the lower three- fourths is scrambled. How can I fix this?

A. Download an updated video driver from our website (www.winbookcorp.com), follow the download instructions and install the updated drivers. This will take care of the Direct X video trouble you have.

Q. My serial mouse is not being seen in Windows 95.

A. Go to device manager, remove all mice drivers, then restart the unit. If it is still not working, go to add new hardware and run "autodetect". This should detect any operational serial mouse.

Q. I want to boot my computer into a DOS prompt so that I can run DOS based programs or I can run Windows 95 later.

A. Boot up to Windows 95, open notepad, and open the msdos.sys file from the root directory. Look for the line: BOOTGUI=1. Change this to BOOTGUI=0 and save the file. When you reboot the computer it will go to a DOS prompt. All you have to do to get back to Windows 95 is type ‘WIN’.

Q. When I try to connect to a BBS system that uses a 14.4 modem, I get connected but then disconnected right away. What can be done about this?

A. Go to the control panel, then go to modem properties. Under advanced properties, in the extra settings line, type in: AT&F. This will allow the modem to connect to modems slower then 28.8.
