  1. First, the unit needs to be shutdown properly if it isn’t already turned off.
  2. Turn the unit upside down with the front latch to open the lid facing you. You will see a silver tag that identifies the WinBook FX.
  3. There will be a door on the right side of the unit where the ac adapter plugs in. Open the door. There will be a silver metal box visible with a clear plastic tab on it.
  4. On this metal box, there may be a large flat head screw. This screw would need to be turned to the right or left to release the hard drive from the unit. Then the plastic tab may be pulled and the hard drive should come out. If this large flat head screw does not exist continue to step 5.
  5. There will be two Phillips screws roughly one inch in from the right side and three inches apart. Both screw holes are the same size and are be in a perfect line from the back of the unit to the front. Remove these two screws.
  6. Once the screws are removed, pull on the clear plastic tab which is connected to the silver metal box. It may be a tight fit but will come out if the correct screws have been removed.
  7. After the hard drive is removed the new hard drive can be inserted.
  8. At this time it is possible to either tighten the large flat head screw on the rail kit (metal box) or to insert and tighten the screws removed from the bottom of the unit.
  9. Turn the unit right side up, turn on the unit, it may boot up into DOS or Windows. If it doesn’t boot up, it will give a choice "F1 to continue" or "F2 to run setup." If the choice is offered choose F2 for setup.
  10. The Phoenix Bios Setup screen will appear. Main should be high-lighted. Press the down arrow key, to highlight IDE Adapter 0 Master, press Enter. Autotype fixed disk will come up, press Enter. Then press Esc, Esc, Enter, which will bring you to Save changes & Exit. Press Enter and it will reboot.
