  1. It is necessary to have the unit turned off before connecting the serial mouse to the unit.
  2. Power the unit on. From the Start menu, click Settings, Control Panel, and then click the System icon. Next click the Device Manager tab and click the plus (+) next to Mouse.
  3. See if there is anything other than Standard PS/2 mouse or PS/2 Compatible mouse port. If there is, remove it. If there are items that have a yellow exclamation mark (!) next to them, they will need to be removed as well. If there were no items with yellow exclamation points (!) then skip to step 5.
  4. If your mouse becomes disabled, press CRTL + ESC together, press the up arrow, Shutdown should be highlighted. Then press Enter, choose Restart, press Enter again. This will restart the unit and Windows 95 will find the PS/2 mouse again.
  5. If there are no yellow exclamation points (!) under mouse, close the System Properties window. The control panel should still be open even if it was necessary to reboot the unit earlier.
  6. Double click on the Add New Hardware icon, then click Next and then click Next again, the detection process will take about ten minutes. After it has finished the process, click Finish.
  7. Restart the computer again for the changes to take effect. From Start click Shutdown, and then Restart and then Yes.
  8. Always make sure the serial mouse is connected before turning on the WinBook when you want to use it.
