The WinBook FX secondary battery is designed to be used in the Media Bay in which the floppy disk drive or the CD-ROM drive may also be used. Since this bay can accommodate only one device at a time, obviously use of the secondary battery means not using either of the other devices.

Both the standard battery and the secondary battery must be in place for the secondary battery to charge or provided power for the computer.

Both batteries will charge simultaneously.

To install a secondary battery in the Media Bay follow this procedure:

  1. Shutdown the computer. Make sure you always power the unit off before inserting the battery.
  2. Disconnect the A/C power adapter. To begin use of the secondary battery, insert it into the Media Bay, with the primary battery also in its place in the computer.
  3. Turn on the computer and use it until both batteries run down.
  4. Reconnect the A/C power adapter. Both batteries will charge simultaneously, so the charging time will be roughly double the time for the standard battery charging by itself. Using the computer while recharging the batteries will lengthen the time needed to fully charge both batteries.
