Q. My contrast control does not work. Why not? The active matrix screen has an auto contrast feature so the slide control serves no purpose. Q. What kind of sound card do I have? The sound card is optional so you may not have one. If you purchased this option, it is an ESS 1688 sound card. Q. I shut my computer down improperly and on restart it ran scandisk but it seemed to stop. If I pressed a key it would continue but then stop again. What is wrong? Go into your BIOS by pressing CTRL-ALT-S either on startup or at a DOS prompt. Go to Power Management Setup and set CPU Doze timeout to Disabled. Q. How much video memory does my computer have? The XP5 has 1MB of video DRAM. Q. Is my hard drive removable? Yes. Refer to page 5-5 of your users manual or the WinBook Tech Article on Removing your hard drive for instructions on how to remove it. Q. What kind of hard drive can I put in my XP5? The XP5 uses a standard 2.5" laptop hard drive and can be either thick (19mm) or thin (12mm).
Q. How much RAM can I put in my XP5? The XP5 can have as much as 32MB of RAM. There is only one socket available so you will need to remove the existing module to install a new one. Please contact our sales department for information on pricing and availability. Q. Can I install the RAM myself? No. To have RAM upgraded, you must send the computer to WinBook. Q. My volume is not very high. I checked the volume settings in Windows 95. They are all up but the volume is still low. What is wrong? There is a volume knob located under the floppy drive. Turning this knob toward you will increase all volume on the XP5. Q. What kind of modem do I have? There were several modems sold with the XP5 and even some sold without modems. On the left side on the computer, towards the back, you may see a phone jack. If you do and it is grey, you have an internal 33.6 modem. If the jack is black, you have an internal 14.4 modem. If there is not a phone jack, you either received a PCMCIA modem or purchased one without a modem. Q. What can I use my PCMCIA slots for? You can use the PCMCIA slots for a variety of add on components including modems, network adapters, SCSI adapters, etc. |
