Q. Do I need to turn my XP5 on when it is on the dock or do I just turn the docking station on?

You only need to turn the docking station on. The docking station will power the WinBook.

Q. My computer is not powering up on the docking station or it powers up but does not work properly. Is it broke?

The most likely cause of problems like this is the computer not being docked properly. To make sure it is docked properly, dock the computer then put one hand behind the computer and the other in front of the computer and squeeze together. You should feel it "click" in again. The computer should be docked properly now.

Q. Can I "hot dock" my XP5 on the docking station?

No. The docking station is not designed for this. Doing so could damage the dock and or the XP5.

Q. My PS/2 keyboard does not work on the docking station. Why not? It works on the back of the computer.

The PS/2 port on the back of the docking station is wired for a mouse only. For a keyboard you must use the larger AT keyboard port. If you have a PS/2 keyboard, you can buy an adapter that will allow it to be plugged into the larger port.

Q. Can I use my PS/2 duplex adapter on the docking station?

No. The PS/2 port on the docking station will not accept the duplex adapter.

Q. When I shut down my computer and turn the power to the docking station off, the computer does not actually turn off. What is wrong?

This can sometimes be caused by a card installed in the docking station. If you have a card installed in the docking station (such as a network or SCSI card) remove it and see if the computer shuts off. If this fixes the problem, try a different type of card. If it does not fix the problem, there may be a problem with the docking station. Please call technical support at 1-800-468-1225.

Q. Can I put an adapter card in the dock?

Yes. The docking station has two ¾ length, 16bit, ISA slots. One slot is used by the CD-ROM controller which leaves you with one extra slot. This can be used for a network card, second IDE controller, SCSI controller, modem, etc.

Q. Can I put a second floppy drive in the docking station?

Yes. There is a floppy drive cable and power cable inside the dock to allow for the addition of another floppy drive. Refer to your users manual for instructions on installing a floppy drive.

Q. Will the battery in my XP5 charge when it is on the docking station?

Yes.

Q. Can I take my XP5 off of the docking station while it is on?

No. The XP5 is not designed for this. Doing so could damage the computer and or dock. If the computer comes undocked accidentally, do not put the computer back on. Turn the docking station off, then put the computer back on.
