Subject: Administering BIOS Passwords on the WinBook V-Series

First Set a Supervisor Password:

  1. Enter the BIOS by tapping the DEL key as the computer boots up.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight Security.
  3. Press the down arrow key to highlight Change Supervisor Password. Press Enter.
  4. Enter a password into the box. Note: There is a six (6) character limit. Press Enter.
  5. Confirm the password and press Enter.
  6. There will be a confirmation message "Password Installed". Press Enter.
  7. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Highlight OK and press Enter. The computer will now restart.

You can also set an optional user password. The user password is used mainly to restrict access to all or some BIOS options. To set a user password follow these steps:

  1. Enter the BIOS by tapping the DEL key as the computer boots up.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight Security.
  3. Press the down arrow key and highlight Change User Password. Press Enter.
  4. Enter a password into the box. Note: There is a six (6) character limit. Press Enter.
  5. Confirm the password and press Enter.
  6. There will be a confirmation message "Password Installed". Press Enter.
  7. Now set the type of access available want for the User password.
  8. Use the up arrow key and highlight User Access Level and press Enter.
  9. Choose desired access level for the user. Below is a description of each choice and what it does. Once the desired access level has been selected, press Enter.
    1. No Access: Will not allow the User to enter the BIOS at all. The User can still boot to the hard drive. When the User password is entered to get into the BIOS the unit will continue to boot to Windows.
    2. View Only: Allows the User to see all of the settings in the BIOS but cannot change any of them.
    3. Limited: Allows the User to change only the date, time, and quiet boot.
    4. Full Access: Allows the user full access to change everything except the supervisor password.
  10. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Highlight OK and press Enter. The computer will now restart.

By default the computer is set to only ask for password when entering the BIOS Setup. If password is desired during boot follow these steps:

  1. Enter the BIOS by tapping the DEL key as the computer boots up.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight Security.
  3. Use the down arrow key to highlight Password Check. Press Enter.
  4. Use the down arrow key to highlight Always. Press Enter.
  5. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Highlight OK and press Enter. The computer will now restart.
  6. When prompted with "Enter CURRENT Password", enter the appropriate password and hit Enter. The computer will continue to boot into Windows.
  7. On boot up you will get a message that says "Enter CURRENT Password:" Enter your password and press Enter to continue booting.

To clear the User Password follow these steps:

  1. Enter the BIOS by tapping the DEL key as the computer boots up.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight Security.
  3. Use the down arrow key to highlight Clear User Password. Press Enter.
  4. Highlight OK and press Enter.
  5. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Highlight OK and press Enter. The computer will now restart.
  6. The User password has now been cleared.

To clear the Supervisor Password follow these steps:

  1. Enter the BIOS by tapping the DEL key as the computer boots up.
  2. Use the right arrow key to highlight Security.
  3. Use the down arrow key to highlight Change Supervisor Password. Press Enter.
  4. Leave the New Password box blank and press Enter.
  5. There will be a confirmation message "Password Uninstalled". Press Enter.
  6. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Highlight OK and press Enter. The computer will now restart.
  7. The Supervisor password has now been cleared.
