This article describes how to physically insert and remove a PCMCIA card into the Winbook V series. For information on installing software or configuring your PCMCIA card please refer to any documentation that was included with the device.

  1. Make certain that no card is currently inserted into the notebook by using the eject button. (Figures A B and C)
  2. Gently slide your PCMCIA card into the unit until it is firmly seated in place.
  3. To remove your PCMCIA card while the unit is running, click on the "Safely remove Hardware" icon near the clock in the Windows XP notification area. (This is typically found in the lower right corner of your screen.) Highlight your PCMCIA card and then click on the Stop button. When the confirmation window appears click on the OK button. DO NOT stop the IEEE802.11g/b Wireless LAN USB adapter. This is the internal wireless card and stopping this will cause your wireless connection to drop until you restart the machine. Once your PCMCIA card has been stopped a window should appear saying that it is now safe to remove the hardware.
  4. Once you have stopped the device or if you wish to remove a PCMCIA card while the unit is powered off you can either use the eject button (Figures A B and C) to partially eject the card from the unit or if you have a PCMCIA card that sticks out about an inch then you can gently pull the card out without using the eject button.

Figure A

Press the eject button and it will pop out as shown in figure B.

Figure B

Pushing the eject button back into the unit will eject the PCMCIA card.

Figure C

You can now carefully remove the PCMCIA card from the unit.
