To remove or replace the optical drive on the WinBook C220, take the following steps:

  1. Make sure the computer is powered off, AC power disconnected and battery removed. Invert computer so bottom is facing up.
  2. With the system oriented so the empty battery bay is away from you, locate the optical drive tray panel ( has eject button on it) to the left.
  3. On bottom, near the tray panel and eject button, locate mounting screw, one of two fastening optical drive to the bottom. Remove this screw. See below for location of screws.

  1. On bottom, near the center of the bottom, to the right of FCC label, locate the second of the two screws fastening the optical drive to the bottom. Remove this screw. See above for location of screws.
  2. Insert small screwdriver in hole from second screw removed and gently push to the left against the screw hole in the drive bracket - being careful not to damage the case. This should begin to force the drive out of the drive bay. Once the drive has been moved outward from the bay even a fraction of an inch, it can be drawn out of the bay by carefully grasping the tray cover and continuing to move the drive to the left.
  3. To replace the drive, carefully slide the drive into the bay until the screw holes line up with the holes in the bottom of the unit. It should slide in easily, so if there is resistance, remove it and try again until it goes in smoothly.
  4. Replace the screws.
