Most WinBooks will use the same format for the serial number. Exceptions to this are listed below. If you have difficulty finding the correct number, or if the number is not readable, please note in your e-mail all of the numbers on the bottom of the unit. Sometimes RAM numbers and other reference numbers can be used to find the purchase information. If there are no stickers, we sometimes can look up the invoice under the original purchasers name. For all retail units, Please include the owners name and as much information as possible, since we cannot access those units by serial number. The standard format is a 14 digit code: a 6 character configuration code, followed by a single letter indicating the place of purchase, then a 7 character build code. The first letter of the code indicates the model of the computer. WinBook XP: A, B, C, D, E WinBook XP5: F, G, H, K WinBook LM: P WinBook XP5 Pro: I WinBook FX: J, L, M, N, Q WinBook XL: R, S, T, U, Y, B, D WinBook XLi,: V, W, Z WinBook XL2: X, A, C, E, F WinBook XL3: G The location code indicates where the unit was purchased (the 7th character in the number). W: Purchased by phone or website order directly from WinBook. These records can be directly accessed using the serial number. D: Shipped directly from the factory in Taiwan. If there are no other characters after the D, then use the other number (see XL/XL2 exception below). R: Purchased from a Microcenter store. WinBook does not have sales records for these units. C: Purchased from MEI corporate sales. WinBook does not always have sales records for these units. F: Refurbished. WinBook usually has sales records for these. Y: Refurbished Retail. WinBook does not usually have sales records for these units. T: Purchased from Computer City or Incredible Universe. WinBook does not have sales records for these units. U: Purchased from CompUSA. WinBook does not have sales records for these units. There are several exceptions: WinBook SLC/SX-DX: The serial number is the only white sticker on the bottom of the computer. These units are no longer repaired by WinBook. WinBook XL, XL2: Some units were shipped directly from the factory and do not have the standard WinBook number format. This number will be on a barcode sticker on the bottom of the computer. This will start with H, I, or J, and will be 8 characters in length. WinBook Si and Si2. This number starts with N and is 9 characters. |
