Q. How do I install Norton Utilities? A. The Norton Utilities CD has a feature called AutoPlay, so all you need to do is insert the CD in your CD-ROM and follow the instructions on the screen. Q. I did not receive any manuals with the CD. How do I learn how to use Norton Utilities? A. Extensive documentation for Norton Utilities is contained on the CD. The Info Desk help files can be opened prior to installation. To access these, place the CD in the CD-ROM and once the initial screen is displayed, click on Explore Norton Utilities. The files are in standard Windows 95 help file format. There are also tutorials that will be available once you have installed the program. These are contained in the CD Companion Series. To access the tutorials, place the CD in the CD-ROM and once the initial screen is displayed click on the CD Companion Series option. After the program has been installed the Info Desk files will also be on your hard disk drive. They can be accessed through the Start Menu and from the Help menu when using program features. Q. After installing Norton Utilities, when I to right click on the Recycle Bin or try to open it I receive a page fault error. How do I fix this? A. You will need to obtain and install NU20PTCH.EXE. You can download this file from the Symantec website at: http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/files/nu/norton_utilities_version_2x_for_windows_95.html Q. When I exit Windows 95 abnormally Microsoft Scandisk used to run. Now Norton Disk Doctor runs. Is this normal? A. Yes. Windows 95 versions 4.00.0950B, also known as OSR2, will automatically run Microsoft Scandisk if it detects that Windows did not exit normally. When Norton Utilities is installed, Norton Disk Doctor is run in place of Scandisk. Q. Does Norton Utilities System Doctor have built in anti-virus protection? A. It has the capability of detecting viruses through using the Virus Scan sensor. This sensor periodically scans your system for computer viruses. The stoplight turns red and the alarm is triggered if a virus is found on your system. If you have Norton AntiVirus, this sensor can run it automatically to remove viruses. Q. If I have a problem with the Norton Utilities how can I get assistance with the program? A. You should contact the technical support for Norton Utilities. When contacting Symantec Technical Support you have the following options: Standard Care - 541-465-8420 Standard Care support is free for all registered users for 90 days from the date of their first call. Priority Care offers two access options that guarantee faster service: 800-927-3991: A fee of $29 per incident will be charged to your credit card. This is a good option for error messages and more in-depth problems. 900-646-0007: A fee of $2 per minute will be charged to your phone bill. This is a good option for how-to, can-I, and reference manual questions. Q. If I just want some additional information on the program, or find out what updates are available for the program where can I find this? A. On-line documentation, patches, a knowledge base on Norton Utilities, and other information can be found on Symantecs website at: http://service.symantec.com/nu.html Q. Norton Utilities has the option of creating a Rescue Disk. What does this do for me? A. Rescue Disk copies your computer's critical setup data and startup files, including Windows 95 Registry files, to one or more floppy disks called rescue disks. If your computer fails to start, these rescue disks, unique to your computer, can be used to start your computer in MS-DOS mode. Once in MS-DOS mode, you can use the Norton and Microsoft DOS-based programs stored on the rescue disks to:
Q. I have Norton AntiVirus 4.0 installed and Norton Utilities 2. I updated the signatures for Norton AntiVirus, but Norton Utilities is still saying the files are out of date. What is wrong? A. Norton AntiVirus and Norton Utilities use two different engines for virus detection, as well as two different pools of virus definitions. In this case, the best course of action is to remove the Virus Defs sensor and any Virus Scan sensors in System Doctor. This will let Norton AntiVirus handle virus protection and avoid any conflicts due to redundancy of protection. Q. Is Norton Utilities Year 2000 compliant? Where can I get more information on this issue and Norton Utilities? A. Yes, Norton Utilities is Year 2000 compliant. You can obtain more information on this at: http://www.symantec.com/y2k/y2k.html |
